The Research...

" The effectiveness of a new dynamic device, the D-sebecs, was compared to the stability ball in recruiting abdominal and multifidus muscle fibres during the bridging exercise. Relative to the stability ball the D-sebecs allows movement in greater ranges during dynamic exercises. Twenty six subjects, (four male and 22 female) participated in this study. Subjects had no current history of low back pain. Subjects were divided into two groups and each performed the bridging exercise on both devices alternatively. Electromyography (EMG) was used to detect, process and record muscle activity from the abdominal and multifidus muscles. Readings were taken from surface electrodes placed anteriorly and posteriorly over the stabilizer muscles. Data collected was recorded and statistically analyzed. Results indicated that there were significant differences between the 3DEB and the stability ball for some of the parameters measured. It appears that the D-sebecs compares favourably with the stability ball in terms of effectiveness. "
